SIOUX CENTER, Iowa-(UJ)- The Jimmie softball team opened the GPAC portion of its schedule on Saturday with a doubleheader against No. 15 Northwestern College.
The games were moved from Orange City to the American State Bank Sports Complex, Dordt University’s indoor facility.
Jamestown was blanked 5-0 in the opener, and the Red Raiders rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the seventh for a 3-2 victory to complete the sweep.
In game one, NWC took a 2-0 lead in the first, then scored two more in the third to extend the lead to 4-0. The Red Raiders added another run in the sixth.
Trinity Gregg had a double for UJ while Mackenzie Lefebvre, Megan Neiles, and Gentrey Turin also had hits. Sunny Halsey (4-5) took the loss in the circle, pitching six innings for her sixth complete game of the season.
Down 1-0 in game two, the Jimmies rallied to take the lead in the top of the fourth. Maddie Spaeth led off the inning with a triple and came home on a single by Samarah Martinez. Martinez moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Mackenzie Lefebvre, then Ally Battistoni put Jamestown in front with a single to score Martinez.
Abby Blair (5-3) allowed a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh, then recorded a strikeout for the second out of the inning. Another single put runners on second and third, then Leah Schaefer came through with the game-winning hit to complete the NWC comeback.
Blair went the distance for her fifth complete game of the year. Six different Jimmies had a hit, including a double by Lefebvre.
UJ (12-10, 0-2 GPAC) will take on Briar Cliff (Iowa) University on Saturday at the PC Dome in Aberdeen, S.D., with the doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
