Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed right-handed pitcher Jorge López on the Restricted List.
López has appeared in 29 games for the Twins this season, going 2-2 with a 5.00 ERA (27.0 IP, 15 ER), three saves, six holds, 10 walks and 22 strikeouts.
To replace López on the 26-man roster, the Twins have recalled right-handed pitcher Jordan Balazovic from Triple-A St. Paul. Balazovic, 24, has appeared in 14 games (3 start) for the Saints this season, going 1-1 with a 4.79 ERA (35.2 IP, 19 ER), 21 walks, 50 strikeouts and a .261 (36-for-138) opponent batting average. The 6-foot-5, 194-pound right-hander is ranked as the 20th-best prospect in the Twins organization by MLB.com and the seventh best among pitchers. The Mississauga, Canada native pitched for the American League Team in the 2019 SiriusXM Futures Game at Progressive Field in Cleveland and was selected by the Twins in the fifth round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of St. Martin Secondary School in Mississauga. He has pitched in parts of seven seasons in the Twins minor league system, going 24-24 with a 4.24 ERA (433.0 IP, 204 ER), 164 walks and 481 strikeouts in 106 games (82 starts).
Balazovic will be in uniform for this afternoon’s game against the Detroit Tigers, wearing jersey number 81. He is looking to make his major league debut.
