Bismarck, N.D. – North Dakota State agencies of a source water spill by Denbury Onshore LLC at an injection well they operate about nine miles southwest of Marmarth on Friday, June 23. Denbury estimates approximately 200 barrels (8,400 gallons) of source water flowed from an injection well pad impacting rangeland. The cause of the spill was a cracked pre-filter pot. Source water is water from an underground formation. Source water and injection wells are used for enhanced oil recovery. Personnel from Environmental Quality are working with Denbury on cleanup and will continue to monitor the investigation and remediation.  Federal and state laws require that operators report the spillage of any materials that may pollute water, air, or soil.
