The Jamestown Police Department wants to notify Jamestown residents regarding a new high risk sex offender who is residing within the city of Jamestown.
33 year-old Richard Garrett Staples currently resides at 1610 Business Loop E Apt B. He is American Indian 5’8” tall weighing 210 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair. He has been assigned a high risk assessment by the North Dakota risk level committee, Office of the Attorney General. Staples has no vehicle at this time.
Offense: Abusive Sexual Contact – when he was 25 years old he had Abusive sexual contact with a 6-yo female. Conviction Date: 12/19/2017 in U.S. Federal Court. Disposition: 41 months; 5 years supervised probation.
Offense: Sexual Abuse – when he was 21 years old, he raped an adult female after she passed out. Conviction Date: 07/16/2014 in U.S. Federal Court. Disposition: 64 months, credit for time served; 5 years supervised probation
Staples is not wanted by police at this time and has served the sentence imposed by the court. This notification is meant for public safety and not to increase fear in the community, nor should this information be used to threaten, assault or intimidate the offender. Attempts to harass, intimidate or threaten these offenders or their families, landlords or employers will be turned over for prosecution. Mr. Staples is on parole with ND Parole and Probation.
