VALLEY CITY – The Valley City State volleyball team picked up a pair of 3-0 sweeps Saturday afternoon, defeating Montana State University-Northern and (RV) Dakota Wesleyan, to round out the VCSU Invite.
The Vikings defeated Northern in the first match of the day 25-22, 25-17 and 26-24.
VCSU later returned to Graichen Gym to defeat Dakota Wesleyan, 25-18, 25-20 and 25-19. The Tigers had been ranked No. 13 in the NAIA Preseason Coaches’ Poll but has dropped out of the Top 25 as they opened the season with a 10-6 record.
Junior setter Sadie Hansen finished the day with 67 assists, 20 digs, five kills and two blocks for VCSU.
Head coach Michelle Meiklejohn shared her thoughts on Hansen’s performance Saturday, “It is our setter who makes [our hitters] better and makes them look good and Sadie Hansen does it all. She plays defense, puts up a really nice ball, she’s running all over the place.”
Hansen helped hitters Bailey Nelson and Danielle Hagler record 22 kills apiece Saturday, leading VCSU’s offense.
VSCU improves to 11-3 heading into the conference season. The Vikings will travel to Dickinson State for the NSAA opener on Wednesday, Sept. 13. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. CT.
