BISMARCK, N.D. – Gov. Doug Burgum released the following statement today on the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

“Twenty-two years later, we honor the nearly 3,000 individuals who died in the 9/11 attacks and the heroic actions of the police, firefighters and other first responders who bravely saved lives while risking their own,” Burgum said. “We will never forget them or the 29 military service members from North Dakota who have laid down their lives for our freedom in the Global War on Terrorism. To them we owe a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid. We encourage all citizens to take time to thank a first responder, find a way to give back to their community and display an American flag, remembering the renewed patriotism and unity that arose in the aftermath of that tragic day.”

Senator John Hoeven, a member of the Senate Defense Appropriations Committee, today released the following statement marking the anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

“Today, we look back and remember the horrific terrorist attacks against our nation, not only to mourn the lives lost, but to honor the victims’ memory and express our deep gratitude to the first responders for their courage in the midst of this terrible tragedy. We will never forget the sacrifices made, both that day and in the years that followed, as the incredible men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces answered the call to defend our great nation in the war on terror. We know the cost of our freedom and security, and we must remember it always.”
