VCSU’s Sadie Hansen and JayCee Richter have been named NSAA Volleyball Players of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. It is the second straight week that the duo has earned the honor, and third straight honor for Hansen as Setter of the Week.

Elora Passa of Mayville State was named Attacker of the Week.

NSAA Volleyball Setter-of-the-Week
Sadie Hansen – Valley City State (N.D.) – 5’9″, Junior, setter – Oakes, N.D. – Hansen collected 78 set assists in a pair of 3-0 sweeps for Valley City State.  She produced 38 set assists (12.7 set assists per set) in the 3-0 North Star Athletic Association season opener at Dickinson State. She followed up with 40 set assists (13.3 assists per set) in 3-0 home victory over Briar Cliff. Hansen also recorded 13 digs for the week (2.2 digs per set) and two blocks. 

NSAA Volleyball Defender-of-the-Week
JayCee Richter – Valley City State (N.D.) – 5’7″, Sophomore, libero – Linton, N.D. – Richter totaled 46 digs and posted 7.7 digs per set as Valley City State went 2-0 with a pair of sweeps on the week. She was perfect in service receptions (14 receptions) and added a pair of service aces for the Vikings. Richter collected 26 digs (8.7 digs per set) in 3-0 NSAA victory at Dickinson State, followed by 20 digs (6.7 digs per set) in 3-0 home win versus Briar Cliff. 

NSAA Volleyball Attacker-of-the-Week
Elora Passa – Mayville State (N.D.) – 5’11”, Senior, setter/outside hitter – Barnesville, Minn. – Passa posted a pair of triple-doubles as Mayville State went 2-0 record for the week.  She posted 16 kills (4.0 kills per set), 28 set assists (7.0 assists per set), and 11 digs (2.8 digs per set) in Comets’ 3-1 victory at Mount Marty. She followed up with 17 kills (3.4 kills per set), 28 set assists (5.6 assists per set), and 14 digs (2.8 digs per set) in 3-2 thriller at Briar Cliff. For the week, Passa totaled 33 kills (3.7 kills per set) and hit .316.  She collected 56 assists (6.2 assists) and 25 digs (2.8 digs per set).  She had three service aces.

Six North Star Athletic Association members opened their conference play on Sept. 13.  Viterbo (Wis.), No. 6 in the latest NAIA Women’s Volleyball Coaches’ Top 25 national poll, rolled past Waldorf (Iowa) in three straight sets to stretch their winning streak to seven matches.  The V-Hawks raised their overall record to 14-2 and 1-0 NSAA conference record.  The Warriors are 9-2 overall record after their three-set sweep over Union (Neb.) on Sept. 17 and 0-1 NSAA conference record.

Bellevue (Neb.), ranked No. 12 in the latest NAIA national poll, held on to defeat Dakota State (S.D.), receiving votes in the national poll, in four sets on Sept. 13.  The Bruins swept Hastings (Neb.) in three straight sets in the Ottawa (Kan.) tournament on Sept. 15 and fell to Kansas Wesleyan in four sets and MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) in three sets on Sept. 16.  Bellevue is 13-3 overall record an 1-0 NSAA conference record.  DaSU is 7-7 overall record and 0-1 NSAA conference record.

Valley City State (N.D.), receiving votes in the NAIA Women’s Volleyball Coaches’ Top 25 national poll, cruised past Dickinson State (N.D.) on Sept. 13 and at home versus Briar Cliff (Iowa) on Sept. 15.  VCSU raised their overall record to 13-3 and 1-0 NSAA conference record.  The Blue Hawks remained winless in 13 matches and 0-1 record in the league.

Mayville State (N.D.) was idle from the North Star Athletic Association play as they went 2-0 record in non-conference action.  The Comets defeated Mount Marty (S.D.) in four sets on Sept. 12 and survived a five-set thriller at Briar Cliff (Iowa) on Sept. 13.  MSU is 8-3 overall record.

Looking Ahead
The North Star Athletic Association continues this week as No. 6 ranked Viterbo (Wis.) visits No. 12 ranked Bellevue (Neb.) Wednesday evening.  The V-Hawks then travel to Dakota State (S.D.) Thursday evening.

Mayville State (N.D.) opens their North Star conference season Thursday evening at Valley City State (N.D.).  The Comets stay on the road at Dickinson State (N.D.) on Friday.

Waldorf (Iowa) begins their busy schedule with three matches on three days, starting at Union (Neb.) on Thursday, at Bellevue on Friday, and at Dakota State on Saturday.
