UJ – The University of Jamestown football team won its second straight game, defeating Mount Marty (S.D.) University 24-13 Saturday afternoon at Charlotte & Gordon Hansen Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both teams had two unsuccessful scoring drives in the first quarter, with each of Jamestown’s ending in an interception while Mount Marty’s ended in a punt and a turnover on downs.
  • The Lancers turned an interception into a field goal, as Maxwell Welch connected from 29 yards out to give the visitors a 3-0 lead with 12:32 remaining in the first half.
  • Jamestown took over at their own 25-yard line following a touchback, and on the first play from scrimmage, Carlos Julian took a handoff 75 yards to the end zone. Aanon Peterson‘s extra point made it 7-3 with 12:19 to play in the half.
  • Welch’s second field goal of the quarter, a 35-yarder, made it a 7-6 game at the 4:09 mark.
  • UJ wasted little time in answering the Mount Marty field goal as they covered 90 yards in 100 seconds on four plays.
  • Ty Monson found Julian on a 67-yard pass play, and two plays later, tossed a 25-yard pass to Isaiah Roebuck to give the Jimmies a 14-6 lead after the extra point by Peterson.
  • Jamestown opened the second half with a ten-play, 71-yard drive that resulted in a ten-yard touchdown run by Zachariah Hammett, putting UJ ahead 21-6.
  • Mount Marty put together a scoring drive of ten plays that was capped off by Ken Gay’s 20-yard pass to Jonah Miyazawa to again make it a one-score game at 21-13 with 11:17 remaining.
  • The Jimmies began the next drive at their own 36-yard line and chewed up nearly seven minutes of clock time before Peterson made a 28-yard field goal on fourth-and-three at the 4:19 mark. Mount Marty was called for an offsides penalty, resulting in a five-yard gain and a new set of downs.
  • Jamestown ran off another 71 seconds of game time and forced the Lancers to use their final two timeouts before Peterson made a 28-yard field goal with 3:08 left.
  • Mount Marty got down to the Jimmie 28-yard line on a 16-yard pass from Gay to Rex Ryken, but Parker Chaffee knocked the ball loose and Mason Parker recovered at the UJ 30 with 1:54 remaining.
  • Three kneeldowns by Monson finished out the game and Jamestown came away with the win.
