Valley City State volleyball teammates Sadie Hansen and JayCee Richter have been named NSAA Players of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. Hansen earned her seventh straight Setter of the Week honor, while Richter was named the Defender of the Week for the third time this season.

NSAA Volleyball Setter of the Week
Sadie Hansen – Valley City State (N.D.) – 5’9″, Junior, setter – Oakes, N.D. – Hansen posted 11.7 set assists per set as (RV) Valley City State went 2-0 at home, including an upset victory over No. 12 ranked Jamestown. She produced 31 set assists (10.3 assists per set) in a 3-0 sweep over Dickinson State and followed up with 39 set assists (13.0 assists per set) against Jamestown. Hansen accumulated 70 assists (11.7 set assists per set) and 14 digs for the week. She also posted four kills, three blocks, and three service aces for the Vikings.

NSAA Volleyball Defender of the Week
JayCee Richter – Valley City State (N.D.) – 5’7″, Sophomore, libero – Linton, N.D. – Richter paced (RV) Valley City State’s defense by averaging 7.0 digs per set after going 2-0 for the week at home. She recorded 12 digs (4.0 digs per set) in a 3-0 sweep over Dickinson State, and then recorded a season-high 30 digs (10.0 digs per set) in the 3-0 upset victory over No. 12 ranked Jamestown. Richter was also perfect in receptions on the week in 21 attempts. She collected a total of 42 digs for the week.

NSAA Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Jada Mitchell – Viterbo (Wis.) – 6’1″, Sophomore, middle hitter – New Albin, Iowa – Mitchell helped No. 5 ranked Viterbo (Wis.) to an undefeated 4-0 record, all in three straight sets sweeps including a 3-0 record in their own home tournament.  She accumulated 34 kills for the week (2.8 kills per set) and recorded a hitting efficiency of .382 by committing just five attack errors in 76 swings.  Mitchell also added 12 blocks for the week (1.0 block per set) with two solo blocks and ten block assists.

Viterbo (Wis.), who rose to No. 5 from No. 6 in the latest NAIA Women’s Volleyball Coaches’ Top 25 national poll, went 4-0 record for the week.  The V-Hawks produced all 3-0 sweeps for the week, defeating at Waldorf (Iowa) on Oct. 11 and went undefeated with a 3-0 record in their own home tournament.  VU earned wins over Trinity Christian (Ill.), Rocky Mountain (Mont.) and Saint Francis (Ind.) in the tournament on Oct. 13-14.  Viterbo ballooned their winning streak to seven matches, lifting their overall record to 23-3 and 7-0 record in the North Star contests. 

Waldorf also played in the Viterbo tournament on Oct. 13-14.  The Warriors went 1-2 record, falling short to Saint Francis (Ill.) in five sets on Oct. 13 and Rocky Mountain (Mont.) in three straight sets on Oct. 14.  WU snapped their losing streak with a 3-0 sweep over Trinity Christian on Oct. 14.  Waldorf is 11-10 overall record and 0-7 NSAA conference record.

Valley City State (N.D.), receiving votes in the national poll, extended the winning streak to five matches after producing a pair of home victories.  The Vikings opened the second half of the North Star conference schedule with a victory over Dickinson State (N.D.) on Oct. 10.  VCSU followed up with a 3-0 upset victory over No. 12 ranked Jamestown (N.D.) on Oct. 11.  Valley City State raised their overall record to 19-4 and 6-1 NSAA conference record.  Dickinson State is 1-18 overall record and 1-6 record in the league.

Dakota State (S.D.) kicked off the week with a 3-1 upset home victory over then No. 15 ranked Bellevue (Neb.) on Oct. 10.  The Bruins, who fell to No. 18 in the national poll on Oct. 11, went 2-1 record in their own home tournament (2023 Marvel Classic).  Bellevue defeated No. 23 ranked Ottawa (Kan.) in three straight sets on Oct. 13 and fell to No. 10 ranked Montana Tech on the same day.  BU closed the tournament with a 3-0 sweep over Grand View (Iowa) on Oct. 14.  Bellevue is 18-7 overall record and 4-3 record in the North Star.

Dakota State also played in the Bellevue’s tournament on Oct. 14, earning a split.  The Trojans swept Grand View in three straight sets, followed by a 3-1 setback to nationally ranked Montana Tech.  Dakota State is 11-12 overall record and 3-4 record in the conference play.

Mayville State (N.D.) played their lone match of the week at Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) on Oct. 12.  The Comets dropped a 3-0 non-conference match to the Tigers.  MSU is 12-7 overall record and 3-3 NSAA conference record.

Looking Ahead
Dakota State (S.D.) plays their final non-conference match of the season on Tuesday, visiting Mount Marty (S.D.).

Mayville State (N.D.) returns to North Star action Wednesday evening as they host Valley City State (N.D.).

Waldorf (Iowa) hosts No. 18 ranked Bellevue (Neb.) on Thursday evening.  The Bruins visit No. 5 ranked Viterbo (Wis.) on Friday.  Dakota State (S.D.) is scheduled to play at Waldorf Friday and Viterbo Saturday.

Dickinson State (N.D.) stays on the road Friday as they travel to Mayville State.

VCSU plays in the Morningside (Iowa) triangular on Saturday.  The Vikings play host-team Morningside and NCAA Division III Buena Vista (Iowa).
