VCSU – The 12th-ranked University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team successfully began its final four-match homestand to end the regular season with a sweep of Morningside (Iowa) University Wednesday evening at Harold Newman Arena. Set scores were 25-22, 25-22, 25-15.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After trailing 13-12 midway through the first set, UJ rallied for four straight points beginning with a kill by Logan Sherman.
- A Morningside service error gave the Jimmies a 21-18 lead, but the Mustangs fought back to get within 22-21.
- Back-to-back kills by Aleah Zieske put the Jimmies at set point, and after Morningside held off UJ’s first attempt at winning the set, Sherman followed through with the final point.
- The Mustangs opened up a 14-9 lead in set two but Jamestown won four straight points to close within a point.
- UJ’s largest deficit was three points at 16-13, which they overcame after Sherman’s kill made it 19-18.
- Sherman and Darienne Johnson teamed up for a block to break a 19-all tie, then Johnson and Charlee Krieg put up another block to make it 21-19.
- Kills by Johnson and Lexi Olson gave Jamestown the 25-22 win and a 2-0 match lead.
- The Jimmies opened up an 13-6 lead in the third, but Morningside won six in a row to make it a one-point game.
- The Mustangs got as close at 16-15 following a service error by Jamestown, but that would be their final point of the match.
- Olson’s kill started a stretch of nine straight points to end the match. Zieske had three kills and Lily Bertsch recorded a pair of aces during the streak.
FOR THE JIMMIES
- Zieske finished with 13 kills and 11 digs. Sherman added eight kills with a team-high .389 hitting percentage.
- Bertsch had a double-double of 20 assists and 10 digs while Paige Oswald also recorded a double-double of 18 assists and 10 digs.
- Ellie Holen had a match-high 18 digs.
- Johnson and Krieg each had four block assists.
FOR THE MUSTANGS
- Sydney Marlow had 11 kills, followed by Payten Lode with eight.
- Aleksandra Dalach passed out 27 assists.
- Payton Shoquist had 15 digs.
UP NEXT
- The Jimmies host No. 5 Viterbo (Wis.) University Thursday in a non-conference match beginning at 7 p.m.
