The Jamestown Community Foundation has recently awarded a $2,000 grant to The Village Family Service Center, a regional behavioral health agency based in Fargo, for therapeutic supplies for its work at the Jamestown Public Schools system. School based mental health care is now being provided in several ND communities including ours, by the Village Service Center. They offer counseling for children right at our Jamestown schools, so that students miss fewer classes and thus do not fall behind in their courses; counselors can interact with teaching staff to address classroom issues that impact students; and parents do not have to miss work or arrange transportation to get their child the behavioral health services they need.
The collaboration between The Village and Jamestown Public Schools reflects the community’s commitment to children and families. By addressing mental health issues early on, school-based services reduce the risk of negative outcomes such as dropping out of school, substance abuse, and social/emotional difficulties.
Jamestown Community Foundation can be reached for information about the organization or its grant applications/guidelines by going online to wwwjamestowncommunityfoundation.com or by contacting Barb Lang at 701-320-4570.
