NDHP – On January 31st at 1:05pm, a GMC Terrain was traveling westbound on 8th St NW at a high rate of speed when it hit a patch of ice that had not melted yet. Driver lost control of the vehicle and it swerved off the roadway to the right. Vehicle jumped the curb crossing the boulevard and sidewalks on the north side of 8th St NW. The vehicle then entered the roadway of 5th Ave NW. It crossed 5th Ave NW and again went off the roadway striking a tree and retaining wall that was on the west side of 5th Ave NW. All passengers were students at Mandan High School, and they were traveling back to the school for class. 1 passenger was transported by Metro Area Ambulance to CHI St. Alexius for serious non-life-threatening injuries. Other 2 passengers and driver were transported by private vehicles to the hospital for minor injuries. Driver and Passenger 1 were wearing their seatbelts. Passenger 3 was not wearing a seatbelt and Passenger 2 seatbelt usage is unknown at this time.

The Crash remains under investigation.
