UJ – The Jimmies and Broncos put up a good fight in the first half. The Jimmies stayed close behind until around nine minutes remained where the Broncos began to pull ahead, making six straight buckets to lead 26-17.
As the Broncos extended their lead to double figures, the Jimmies worked to close the gap eventually getting within six to end the half 36-42.
Cole Woodford led Jimmie scoring in the first with 12 points, going 4-4 outside the arc. Antonio Chandler grabbed five rebounds and added on seven points. The Jimmies only had 2 turnovers in the first.
Five minutes into the second half the Jimmies had worked to get within two points, forcing a Broncos timeout.
The Broncos, determined to keep the Jimmies behind them, got up 67-57 with 6:32 to go. The next few minutes were a battle as the Jimmies fought to get ahead.
With 1:12 to go, the Broncos led 77-67. But the Jimmies had some fight left as they put up nine points while only allowing the Broncos two. Jimmie points came from free throws from Will Cordes and Chandler, layup from Vazquez, and three-pointer from Cordes. They trailed 76-79 at :36.
In the remaining seconds, the Jimmes outscored the Broncos 7-5 but ended up one point short of the win, 83-84.
Cordes had the hot hand in the second half with 20 points. Jimmy Llinas grabbed eight rebounds in the second half.
FOR THE JIMMIES
- Cordes led with 20 points.
- Woodford followed with 18 points.
- Chandler was just short of a double double with 11 points and nine rebounds.
- Llinas had 13 points and eight rebounds.
- The team had a low turnover game with five while forcing ten.
FOR THE BRONCOS
- Reggie Thomas led with 29 points.
- Tyrique McMurrin had 11 rebounds.
