CASSELTON, N.D. (KFGO & VCPD) – Two people were arrested after a pursuit that began in Valley City and ended east of Casselton Wednesday.

The Valley City police department says officers responded to a truck stop where employees said several people were acting suspiciously and entering and exiting the store numerous times.

While officers were talking to the suspects, the driver fled, driving over a curb and grass before heading east on I-94. Officers identified the vehicle as stolen and pursued it. The notified the Highway Patrol and Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

The Highway Patrol set up spike strips east of Casselton and the vehicle stopped a few miles after hitting them.

The driver, 29-year-old Christopher Wilkie of West Fargo was arrested for driving with a suspended license, fleeing, possession of a stolen vehicle, reckless endangerment, false information to a law enforcement officer, and multiple warrants.

Last month, West Fargo Police officers used a K-9 and a drone to search for Wilkie at a salvage yard. Wilkie was arrested for burglary

A passenger, 27-year-old Justice Erickson of Fargo, was arrested for outstanding warrants that include domestic violence. During the pursuit, a Cass County Sheriff’s deputy’s patrol unit was rear-ended.

The deputy was heading west on I-94 toward the pursuit with the patrol unit’s emergency lights flashing. As the deputy slowed to enter the median where the stolen vehicle was stopped, a pickup ran into the back of the patrol unit.

No one was hurt in that crash, but the driver of the pickup was cited for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle
