Tucson, Ariz.- The University of Jamestown softball team split a pair of one-run games Tuesday at the Tucson Invitational Games. The Jimmies held off Mayville State (N.D.) 5-4, then had their 11-game winning streak snapped in a 1-0 loss to St. Francis (Ill.)
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Samarah Martinez hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth, breaking a 3-3 tie.
• The Jimmies took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a double by Mackenzie Lefebvre that scored Martinez and Kayla Quintanilla.
• The Comets tied the game with a pair of runs in the third, but UJ retook the lead on Amanda Burch‘s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third.
• MSU got one run back in the sixth to cut the Jamestown lead to 5-4.
• Martinez and Lefebvre each went 2-for-4 at the plate. The Jimmies finished with eight hits in the game.
• Sunny Halsey started in the circle for UJ and pitched two scoreless innings. Bristol Foytik got the win, working 3 1/3 innings, with only one earned run allowed. Hope Ransome got the final five outs for the save.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• After Samarah Martinez singled with one out in the top of the first, the Jimmies were held without a hit until Hope Ransome‘s one-out single in the fifth.
• St. Francis scored their lone run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first.
• With one out in the top of the seventh, Ransome doubled to right center, then pinch runner Sonya Rodgers took third on a ground out.
• The Jimmies had a runner at third in two of the last three innings but couldn’t get them to score.
• Ransome pitched all six innings, giving up three hits, walking two and striking out three.

• Jamestown plays two more games in Tucson on Wednesday, taking on Madonna (Mich.) at 10:00 a.m. and Benedictine-Mesa (Ariz.) at 12 p.m.
