It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Senior Master Sergeant Levi T. Williams, who departed from this world on February 21, 2024, at Misawa Air Base, Japan. Levi left an indelible mark on the lives of those fortunate enough to know him, and his absence will be deeply felt by family, friends, and the Air Force community.
Levi was born on September 28, 1982, in Jamestown, North Dakota, to Timothy and Diane. After Levi graduated from Jamestown High School in 2001, he realized his childhood dream of joining the Air Force. When Levi was just 6 years old, he wanted to be “a GI Joe Guy” and when he was 16, his mom found his notebook with information on different branches of the military. His Grandpa was so proud when he chose the Air Force and his mom, brother, and sister welled with tears of pride when he decided to leave for Basic Training shortly after the events of 9/11.
From there he embarked on a distinguished career in the military, characterized by dedication, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to his fellow service members. Levi began his career as a Civil Engineer Electrician, served as a member of the Honor Guard, and an Airman Leadership School Instructor in Spangdahlem, Germany. He deployed to Kyrgyzstan and Kuwait, and for several years he served in one of the most selfless and demanding leadership positions in the Air Force as a First Sergeant at both Kadena Air Base, Japan, and Daegu Air Base, Republic of Korea. He finished his career as a Superintendent where he poured his heart and soul into the entire CE squadron.
In 2016, Levi’s journey took a heartwarming turn when he married the love of his life, Yuka, while stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Together, they brought joy into the world with the birth of their beautiful daughter, Nana Nicole, in 2017.
Beyond his military service, Levi embraced a passion for life, finding solace and joy in the game of golf, biking, and his unwavering loyalty to the Green Bay Packers. His vibrant spirit, sense of humor, and genuine care for others left a tremendous impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Most people would agree of the things he perfected in life, like his pearly white teeth and his ability to be the “life of the party” which always shined brighter than most.
Levi will be deeply missed by his wife Yuka and daughter Nana Nicole, mother and step-father Diane and Gary Eggen, father Timothy Williams, brother Tyson(Vida) Williams, sister Karena(Matthew) Goehner, nephews Bennett and Eddison Goehner, nieces Safira and Audrina Williams, grandmother Katherine Oxtra, step-brother Brent(Lindsie) Eggen and Kylee and Kelton, step-sister Heather Eggen, aunts and uncles Terri and Rick Qual, Kari and Dennis Wetzel, Ted and Sherri Oxtra, Ernie Williams, Connie and Russ Henne, Patty and Dean Jensen, Joyce and Greg Anderson and several cousins.
Levi was preceded in death by his grandfather’s, Kenneth T Oxtra and Ernest “Bob” R Williams and grandmother Violet Williams.
As we bid farewell to Senior Master Sergeant Levi Williams, let us remember and honor a man who lived life with purpose, dedication, and a profound love for others. May he rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire us all.
Beautifully and thoughtfully written by great friends Nick Cooley and Kristine Dreyer.
