Tucson, Ariz.– The University of Jamestown baseball team defeated Waldorf (Iowa) 5-1 on Thursday afternoon in what would end up being UJ’s final game in Tucson. Rain forced the cancellation of the second game against Waldorf as well as Friday’s game against Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.)

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Jordan Singleton went 3-for-3 at the plate, driving in three of the Jimmies’ five runs against the Warriors.
• In the bottom of the first, Chase Burke walked with one out and moved up to second base on Triston Madison‘s sacrifice bunt. Singleton’s base hit scored Burke to give Jamestown a 1-0 lead.
•With two outs in the third, Madison tripled. Isaiah Roebuck came on as a courtesy runner for Madison and Singleton followed with his second RBI of the game to make it 2-0.
• Hayden Brown delivered UJ’s second three-bagger of the inning, driving in Singleton to extend the lead to 3-0.
• Alex Alva led off the bottom of the fifth with a double, and Burke’s bunt single gave Jamestown runners on the corners with no outs.
• Madison flew out to center field, and Alva came home on the sacrifice fly as the Jimmies took a 4-0 lead.
• Burke put himself into scoring position with a steal of second base, and an errant throw by the Waldorf catcher allowed Burke to move on to third base. Singleton’s third hit of the game brought home Burke to make it 5-0.
• The Warriors got on the board in the top of the sixth with a one-out single, but Jimmie reliever Ethan Petty got two of his three strikeouts in the inning with runners on first and second to escape any further damage.
• Avery Liestman (2-0) struck out four over five innings on the mound, surrendering one run on two hits. Ethan Krupp worked a scoreless seventh inning to close out the game.
• Jackson Bonneville was 2-for-3 in the game, joining Singleton as Jimmies with multiple hit games.
