EAGAN, Minn. — The start of the NFL’s 2024 league year commences on March 13.
This Vikings 2024 Free Agency Tracker page will serve as a one-stop shop for official transactions made by the team. It will include updates and analysis for each move.
We also will update the tracker with players who are returning to Minnesota through re-signings, extensions and the signing of exclusive rights deals.
AGREED TO TERMS
RB Aaron Jones
What it means: The Vikings picked up a veteran who is no stranger to NFC North skirmishes. Jones provided a balanced threat for the Packers and closed the 2023 season strong with five consecutive 100-yard games. He has averaged 5.0 yards per carry during his career and has eclipsed 1,400 scrimmage yards in three separate seasons. Jones rushed for more than 100 yards in four games against the Vikings.

WR/PR Brandon Powell
What it means: The Vikings have a deal in place to bring back their primary punt returner from 2023 before he hit free agency. In addition to returning 37 punts for 289 yards last season, Powell added career highs of 29 receptions and 324 yards. Powell caught his third career touchdown pass last season as well, lifting the Vikings over the Falcons.

DL Jonathan Bullard
What it means: The strong and savvy vet is coming off his best NFL season in which he started 14 of 17 games played and recorded career highs of 44 tackles and two sacks. His experience should help a defensive unit that is adding multiple players.

OLB Jonathan Greenard
What it means: After four seasons in Houston, including his 2023 campaign that featured career bests of 12.5 sacks, 15 tackles for loss and 22 quarterback hits, the 26-year-old is likely to have plenty of opportunities to create havoc in Brian Flores’ defense.

OLB Andrew Van Ginkel
What it means: Brian Flores is reconnecting with the player the Dolphins drafted with their third pick of 2019 when Flores was in his first season as Miami’s head coach. Van Ginkel has recorded 17 career sacks, including a career-high six last season.

LB Blake Cashman
What it means: The former state champion at Eden Prairie and Golden Gopher is returning to his home state after three seasons with the Jets and two with the Texans. Cashman recorded 106 tackles, nine tackles for loss, five quarterback hits and five passes defensed, along with his first NFL interception, in 2023, DeMeco Ryans’ first season as head coach.

QB Sam Darnold
What it means: The No. 3 overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft will have a fresh start after backing up Brock Purdy in 2023. Darnold will reconnect with new Vikings quarterbacks coach Josh McCown, his Jets teammate in 2018.

DL Jerry Tillery
What it means: The 28th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft (by the Chargers) is joining the interior of Minnesota’s defensive line after playing in 25 games for the Raiders, who claimed him in 2022.

WR Trent Sherfield
What it means: The Vikings are adding a receiver with 78 career catches, 930 yards and five career scores, as well as ample special teams experience.

SIGNED
K John Parker Romo
What it means: The Vikings have added a kicker who made 17 of 19 field goals for the San Antonio Brahmas in the XFL’s 2023 season. Romo spent part of the 2023 NFL preseason with Detroit and was on Chicago’s practice squad for a bit last fall.

S Theo Jackson
What it means: Jackson contributed on special teams and as a reserve in a defense that uses multiple packages of extra defensive backs. He stepped in for Josh Metellus in Week 2 at Philadelphia for a bit and nabbed Minnesota’s first interception of 2023.

TE Nick Muse
What it means: Muse, a seventh-round pick in 2022, made a big leap from his rookie season to his second NFL training camp and preseason. He made the 53-man roster out of camp, but Minnesota stayed healthy at tight end for the early part of 2023. Muse and others at the position could get increased opportunities while T.J. Hockenson is on the mend from knee surgery.

TE Johnny Mundt
What it means: Mundt has great familiarity with Minnesota’s offense, having overlapped with Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell and Offensive Coordinator Wes Phillips together with the Los Angeles Rams. He’s helped teammates learn the system and offers good versatility for the position group and has caught 36 passes on 44 targets for 312 yards and two touchdowns in the past two seasons.

Update, March 11: Mundt signed his new contract on March 11.
T David Quessenberry
What it means: Quessenberry joined Minnesota just before the 2023 season and was pressed into action by Week 2 when he filled in at left tackle. The veteran made one start at left tackle (at Atlanta in Week 9) and opened three games at right tackle (at Cincinnati, against Detroit, at Detroit) last season.
March 11: Vikings Re-Sign David Quessenberry & Blake Brandel
G Blake Brandel
What it means: Brandel, a sixth-round pick in 2020, has added versatility and depth to the offensive line, making three starts at left tackle in 2022 and two at right guard in 2023. Depending on what happens with Minnesota’s interior, he could challenge for a bigger role in 2024.
