Jamestown – The University of Jamestown baseball team lost its first games at Jack Brown Stadium in 2024 as Morningside (Iowa) University defeated the Jimmies 4-1 and 11-3 on Sunday afternoon.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

Jamestown was held to two hits, both by Triston Madison, in a 4-1 loss.

Madison’s one-out double in the bottom of the first advanced Chase Burke to third, and a groundout by Jordan Singleton allowed Burke to score the first run.

After Madison’s third-inning single, Morningside starter Kai Purdy-Burton retired the next 13 hitters.

A three-run homer by the Mustangs in the top of the sixth proved to be the difference.

Avery Liestman (6-1) took the loss despite giving up only two earned runs over five innings, striking out six.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

Jamestown had a 2-1 lead through three innings, but Morningside would score 10 of the game’s next 11 runs to win 11-3.

The Jimmies pulled in front in the bottom of the third on a two-run home run by Triston Madison.

The Mustangs responded with three runs in the fourth and two more in the second, going on to lead 8-2 entering the bottom of the seventh.

Alex Alva‘s sacrifice fly accounted for UJ’s lone run over the final six innings.

Chase Burke had two of Jamestown’s five hits.

Jimmie starter Cade Torgerson (7-2) went four innings, allowing six runs (three earned) on eight hits. He struck out six and walked two.
