Jamestown – The ninth-ranked University of Jamestown men’s volleyball team won its fourth straight Great Plains Athletic Conference postseason championship on Saturday afternoon, defeating Morningside (Iowa) University in straight sets at Harold Newman Arena. The Jimmies will advance to the NAIA Men’s Volleyball National Championship April 30-May 4 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Jimmie hitters posted a .484 attack percentage in the first set, with Caydann Cox, Caylor Cox, and Tysen Myers combining for 16 of the team’s 19 kills in the opener.
A 6-1 run, including four points in a row, put Jamestown ahead 14-6. Morningside got within five points late in the set before UJ took four of the last six and win the first.
Gaven Hackley and Caydann Cox each had four kills in the second set to help the Jimmies open up a 2-0 match lead. Jamestown got out to a 6-1 lead and would lead by as many as nine down the stretch.
Morningside matched its first set output with 10 kills, but after making only four errors to start, ten errors in the second helped the Jimmies.
Both teams had 14 kills in the final set, but four less attack errors by Jamestown made the difference as UJ won 25-21.
The Mustangs led 14-13 before the Jimmies took the next three points to reclaim the lead for good.
Holding on to a 22-21 edge, UJ finished out the match with the final three points, including a block and kill by Caydann Cox.
