On April 22, 2024, at approximately 8:15 am a black 2013 Ford Expedition crashed and
overturned on the Grant Marsh Bridge in the construction zone. The construction zone is a
complete lane closure with two-way traffic in the eastbound lane.

The Expedition was traveling east across the bridge. A vehicle ahead of the Expedition slowed
suddenly. The driver of the Expedition applied the brakes and steered to the right, striking the
orange barrels protecting people from striking the bridge rail. Approximately 6 barrels were
damaged. The Expedition also struck the bridge rail. The Expedition overturned onto its roof
and slid on the roadway. It was struck from behind by an eastbound 2013 Lincoln SUV as it
overturned. A 2024 Nissan Armada was in the oncoming lane and contacted the Expedition.
There was minor damage to the Lincoln and the Nissan. All occupants were wearing seat
belts. There were no injuries. The Expedition’s airbags deployed. I-94 in both directions at
the Grant Marsh Bridge was closed for approximately 1 hour, reopening at 9:15am.

The Highway Patrol would like to remind motorists to slow down, stay alert, and watch for
workers – your caution ensures everyone’s safety in construction zones. Please be mindful of
your following distance.
