SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — A pair of UND student athletes were honored for the second straight year as part of the 2024 Summit League Golf Academic All-League Team, as announced by the conference on Wednesday morning, for their academic success in the classroom and standout performances on the course during the 2023-24 golf season. 

On the women’s side, Carrie Carpenter earned the distinction for the second straight year after carrying a perfect 4.0 GPA in mechanical engineering. The senior was named the Summit League Women’s Golf Scholar of the Championships for the second straight year, holding the highest GPA and credits earned among all competitors at the championships. On the course, Carpenter appeared in 19 rounds and finished with an 80.84 scoring average, carding one top-10 finish and matching for the team-best score of 71 over 18 holes. 

For the men, Erik Stoxen was also selected for the second straight season and boasts a 4.0 GPA in commercial aviation. The Brainerd, Minn., native is one of three perfect 4.0 GPA’s among the five selected to the men’s academic all-league team as well as being one of two repeat honorees. Stoxen shot 14 rounds over five events for the Fighting Hawks this season, finishing with a 77.36 scoring average and tallied one round below par. 

To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of his team’s competitions.

Nominations are brought forth by sports information directors from the league’s nine institutions and voting is conducted by both the SIDs and facility athletic representatives (FARs). The team is made up of the five student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
