VCP – On 06/27/24, around 1840 hours, Valley City Police Department and Barnes County Sheriff Office responded to the 200 Block of College St. SE for a report of a disturbance with a gun involved. Officers arrived on scene and located two victims who had been involved in the altercation. After securing the scene it was reported Richard Dewien Schermer of Sanborn, and Cheyenne Marie Woodward of Valley City had assaulted the two victims and taken money from them. It was reported a firearm was brandished and threats were made toward the victims before they fled the area. North Dakota Highway Patrol responded to the report and located the two individuals’ vehicles in Sanborn ND at Schermer’s residence. Officers attempted to contact Schermer but were unsuccessful. A shelter in place order was given to the residents of Sanborn and a perimeter was made around the residence. Both Schermer and Woodward were observed inside the residence and refused to contact Officers. James Valley Joint Special Operations Team was contacted and mobilized for the incident along with Stutsman County Narcotics Task Force to provide support. A short time later both Schermer and Woodward were arrested without incident. Following the arrest, the Valley City Police department conducted a search warrant of the residence and vehicles on scene, Both Schermer and Woodward are being held on charges of robbery and terrorizing. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding the case are urged to contact the Valley City Police Department.

VCP – On 06/27/2024, around 1840 hours, a call came in to Barnes County Dispatch of a possible armed robbery.
Valley City Police Department responded to the 200 block of College St. SE and met with two victims. Through investigation two suspects were identified and it was reported they had fled the area. North Dakota Highway Patrol also responded and located the suspect’s vehicles in Sanborn, ND. Barnes County Sherriff Office also responded and both agencies set up a perimeter around the residence where the vehicles were located.
Deputies attempted to make contact with the individuals and were unsuccessful. Both suspects were observed in the residence and after a brief time both individuals left the residence voluntarily. Both individuals were taken into custody.
There is no threat to the public and the investigation is ongoing. Further information will be provided at a later time. If anyone has information regarding this case please contact the Valley City Police Department.
