BISMARCK, N.D. – Cobra Oil & Gas Corporation has notified the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality of a produced water and crude oil spill resulting from a pipeline break in Bottineau County. The incident occurred about 10 miles northeast of Maxbass on June 24.

Cobra estimates approximately 200 barrels (8,400 gallons) of produced water and 25 barrels (1,050 gallons) of crude oil were released from the pipeline, impacting surrounding agricultural land. Produced water is a by-product of oil and gas development.

Personnel from Environmental Quality have inspected the site and will continue to monitor the investigation and remediation.

Federal and state laws require that operators report the spillage of any materials that may pollute water, air or soil. Visit spill.nd.gov for more information about North Dakota’s Unified Spill Reporting System notifications and the public access tool
