NDHP – On December 19 at 03:18am a Volvo was northbound on Hwy 22 coming from Pueblo, CO to New Town, ND. The driver attempted to stop at the intersection of Hwy 12 which is controlled by a stop sign and slid through the intersection and jackknifed. The Express van and Yukon were traveling
together from Alberton, MT to Mclaughlin, SD eastbound on Hwy 12 near Reeder, ND. The
Express van and Yukon were unable to stop in time to avoid colliding with the semi-trailer.
The Express van hit the trailer at a right angle and the Yukon rear ended the trailer the Express
van was towing. Occupants were transported to West River Health Services in Hettinger and
one transported to the Southwest Healthcare Services in Bowman, ND. Four of the individuals
were later transported by ground ambulance to Rapid City Monument hospital.
This crash is under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Names will be released
after notification to the families has been completed. Names of minors will not be released.
