YANKTON, S.D. – Valley City State University men’s basketball beat Mount Marty 76-66 on Friday, Dec. 20 in Yankton, S.D.
 
VCSU finishes 2024 with a with a record of 10-4 and 1-1 in the conference. Mount Marty fell to 6-7 overall and 3-4 conference in their conference.
 
The Vikings got off to a hot start with a first possession three by Tyrel Creger assisted by Shaheed Muhammad. The Vikings held the lead for the majority of the first half finishing the half with a score of 36-29.
 
In the first the Vikings shot 14-30 (47%) from the field, 4-11 (36%) from the three-point line, and 4-6 (67%) from the free throw line. Mount Marty shot 11-22 (50%) from the field, 2-5 (40%) for three, and 5-12 (42%) from the free throw line.
 
In the second the Vikings held the lead from start to finish where closing the game out 76-66. In total they shot 27-53 (51%), 9-20 (45%) from three-point line, and 13-21 (62%) from the free throw line. The Vikings forced 22 turnovers. Mount Marty was 24-43 (56%) from the field, 3-9 (33%) from the three-point line and 15-26 (57%) from the free throw line. Mount Marty forced 12 turnovers.
 
The Vikings were led by Lamar Grayson who scored 19 points, three rebounds, two assists, and three steals. He was followed by Tyrel Creger and Shaheed Muhammad who both put up 13 points.
 
Mount Marty was led by Tash Lunday who earned a double-double with 30 points and 11 rebounds. He was followed by Jake Jenson with 10 points, six rebounds and two assists.
