NDHP – On December 26th, 2024 at approximately 4:01 pm, a two vehicle minor injury crash occurred
at the intersection of Hwy. 1 and Hwy. 26 in Barnes County near Dazey, ND.

A 2016 Chevrolet Malibu was northbound on Hwy. 1 being driven by Shelby Olson. Olson
approached the intersection with Hwy. 26 and t-boned a 1997 Peterbilt towing a 2019 Wilson
trailer being driven by Jack Fehr.

Fehr was eastbound on Barnes County Road 4 and crossing Hwy. 1 to enter onto Hwy. 26.
Fehr failed to yield at the stop intersection and began to cross Hwy. 1. Olson then struck the
passenger side of the Peterbilt in the drive tires of the CMV. Olson’s vehicle had the right of
way at the intersection.

The Peterbilt continued eastbound onto Hwy. 26 and came to a stop. The Chevrolet came to
rest in the intersection, upright.

Shelby and Charles Olson were transported by Barnes County Ambulance to CHI Mercy
Hospital in Valley City for non-life-threatening injuries. A dog named Daphne that had been
with the Olson’s ran off after the crash into a slough area. The Barnes County Sheriff’s Office
put out a public plea for assistance in locating the dog. If anyone observes a dog in the crash
area, please contact the Barnes County Dispatch Center at (701) 845-8181 or call 911 to reach
the dispatch center.

The crash remains under investigation by the NDHP.
