YORK NebAllyssa Johnson and Leah Willard turned in the top individual performances for UJ women’s wrestling team Saturday at the York University Women’s Open.

MATCH RESULTS

Currently ranked 11th nationally at 160 pounds, Johnson won all four of her matches and captured first place in the 160-pound bracket in the Open Division. She pinned Kimberly Carlin of Colorado Mesa University and Yarissa Gallo of Grand View to advance to the semifinals. Against Emmalee Spurgeon of Grand View, Johnson earned a 10-2 decision and then pinned Josie Houk of Fort Hays in the championship match.

Willard finished second in the Amateur Division’s 160-pound bracket. She pinned Laura Merino of Waldorf, Aileen Rueda of Doane, and Renee Miguel of Waldorf before taking on Iowa Western’s Ayana Fletcher in the championship match. Fletcher pinned Willard to end her day with an overall record of 3-1.

The Jimmies return to dual action on Thursday, January 23, when they travel to Mitchell, S.D., to take on Dakota Wesleyan University at 5:00 p.m. and Morningside (Iowa) at 5:45 p.m.
