NDSU – The NDSU men’s track and field team has the seventh-best group of 60 m hurdlers in the NCAA, according to the indoor event squad rankings released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association this week.
The event squad rankings rank every Division I team within each single event, averaging the best performances from the top four athletes at each school in each event. The Bison men are No. 7 in the latest 60m hurdles listing.
Under the direction of assistant coach Reece Vega, five current Bison are among the seven fastest 60m hurdlers in school history.
NDSU’s Brock Johnsen (7.81), Trey Heinrich (7.82), Logan Mathieu (7.97) and Brooks Turner (7.97) combine to average 7.89 in the 60m hurdles this season. The Bison are one of only six teams in Division I to have four athletes clock under 8.00 in the event this year.
The event squad rankings do not include NDSU junior Blake Nyenati, who holds the school record at 7.75 seconds but will likely redshirt the indoor season.
Johnsen and Heinrich rank 46th and 49th, respectively, on the NCAA performance list this season.
