Jamestown -The University of Jamestown women’s basketball team kicked off the conference tournament in style, securing an impressive victory against Dickinson State University at the Harold Newman Arena and finishing with a resounding score of 90-74.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Jimmies and Bluehawks were in a battle much of the first until a 5-0 scoring run by the Bluehawks gave them a five point lead over the Jimmies with 3:23 left to play 
  • Hali Savela three pointer with with 46 seconds left a pair of free throws by Samantha Paulsen gave the Jimmies the lead to end the first quarter ahead by one 19-18 
  • The second quarter the Jimmies found their shot sparked by two back to back Kate Cordes three pointers and going on a 14-4 run and taking a nine point lead 38-29 with 5:27 left before the half 
  • The Jimmies shot 50% from the field and 54% from behind the arch in the second and going into the half with a leading by 10 points 46-36   
  • In the third the Jimmies were in full command and pulled out toa 20 point lead by a three pointer by Jessika Lofstrom with 6:07 left in the quarter 
  • In the fourth quarter Kate Cordes capped of a career night with a three pointer to etch herself in the history books with 34 points and extend the Jimmies to their largest lead of the game of 21 points with 7:17 remaining left to play 
  • The Jimmies were in full control all the way to end and winning the game and advancing to the next round with a final score of 90-74 
  • The Jimmies had two players in double digits Kate Cordes led Jamestown with a career high 34 points and six assists and Megan Oswald had 11 points  
  • Jessika Lofstrom led the Jimmies with nine rebounds 
  • Samantha Paulsen had a team high of three steals
