Viking Baseball to Play in NSAA Preseason Classic

VCSU – The VCSU baseball team is set to compete in the North Star Athletic Association Preseason Classic on March 22 and 23 held in Dickinson, N.D. There they will face Mayville State University, the (RV) University of Jamestown, and Dickinson State University.

The participating teams are set to compete in four non-conference seven inning games each, just ahead of the upcoming 20 conference game schedule.

To this point the Vikings are 13-12 overall, facing only non-conference opponents. They have recently returned from a two-week spring break trip to Florida where they went 8-7 in the RussMatt Invitational.

The Vikings have celebrated two walk off wins this season including a 13-12 win against Graceland University on Friday, Feb. 7, after a Hunter Logan single sealed the game. The Vikings celebrated another walk off 13-12 win in their last game in Florida, taking the win over the (21-9) University of Fort Lauderdale Eagles in the bottom of the ninth. Viking Brady Papineau sent a sacrifice fly to right field to drive home the game winning run.

This season Kaden Rozdeba leads the Vikings batting a .393 average with a team leading 22 RBIs. Rozdeba has two home runs, one triple, nine doubles, and 24 total hits with and on base percentage of .472. Jaden Babiuk boasts a .380 batting average with a team leading 35 hits and 22 runs. He tallied 15 RBIs and also has a .472 on base percentage.

Viking Hunter Magnuson has a team leading three wins with a 3-2 record on the season. Magnuson has 33 strikeouts on the season with batters averaging .302 against him. Three Viking pitchers have been credited with saves including Eli Chabot, Anthony Carrasquillo, and Takao Cookson. VCSU’s Connor Martin leads the team with 36 strikeouts this season.
