UND – North Dakota wrapped up competition at three meets in California on Saturday and came away with a school record, two event titles and placed seven times. The Fighting Hawks also recorded four improvements on the UND top-10 list.

Ethan Thomas was the final Fighting Hawk to compete on Saturday and broke the shot put school record while winning the elite section crown at the Triton Invitational. He won the title with a personal-best throw of 63-7 3/4 (19.40m) and obliterated the previous record mark of 58-10 (17.93m), set by Chris Evenson at the 2021 Mizzou Spring Opener. Thomas currently ranks No. 5 in the NCAA with his throw.

Eve Goldstein also competed in an elite section at UC-San Diego and took sixth in the shot put, moving up to No. 3 in UND history with a personal-best toss of 49-6 1/4 (15.09m).

Julia Matthews and Carter Byron also placed in their respective throwing events in San Diego. Matthews was the runner-up in the shot put with a mark of 44-10 1/4 (13.67m), while Byron finished seventh in the hammer throw with a toss of 170-6 (51.98m).

Matej Hrebacka was the first Hawk to compete at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic on Saturday and captured the crown in the mile with a time of 4:09.73.

Brooklyn Brouse placed fourth in the 800 meters and posted the No. 4 time in school history with a PR of 2:09.95.

Louis-Lys Fanucchi was the final Hawk to take the track in Hayward at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic and added his name to the UND top-10 list with the No. 9 time (1:52.81) in school history in the 800 meters.

Jiri Ceska was the only athlete from North Dakota to compete at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday and finished sixth in his section of the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.15.

North Dakota’s combined event athletes will visit Azusa, Calif., this Thursday and Friday and will take part in the Bryan Clay Multis.
