JAMESTOWN – The Jimmie softball team extended their winning streak to 10 games with two more wins Monday afternoon over Dakota State (S.D.) University at the Nelson Family Bubble. UJ won game one 11-2 and game two by a score of 14-4.

GAME ONE

  • A five-run fifth inning by the Jimmies broke the game open as they went on to an 11-2 victory.
  • Lauren Weigel and Maddie Spaeth had run-scoring singles and Kayla Quintanilla hit a two-run home run Jamestown opened up an 8-2 lead.
  • Spaeth tripled in the top of the seventh to score Trinity Gregg and Sidnie Aasen, then came home on a groundout by Quintanilla to make it 11-2.
  • Kylie Yanzuk drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in the first Jimmie run in the top of the first, then the Jimmies added two more runs in the second to open up a 3-0 lead.
  • Dakota State scored once in each of the second and third innings to get within a run, but only managed to get two baserunners over the final four innings.
  • Gregg scored four runs and was 4-for-5 while Spaeth was also 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored.
  • Quintanilla, Weigel, and Natalie Draper all finished with two hits.
  • Hope Ransome (7-4) struck out four in five innings and gave up one earned run on four hits to get the win.

GAME TWO

  • Dakota State took a 3-0 lead after one inning, but the Jimmies made it a one-run game just two innings later.
  • In the top of the second, Sidnie Aasen’s two-out single scored pinch-runner Rylie Welk for the first UJ run.
  • With one out in the top of the third, Lauren Weigel reached on an error and Maddie Spaeth followed with a triple to bring Jamestown within 3-2.
  •  The Trojans added a run in the bottom of the third for a two-run cushion, only to have the Jimmies open the floodgates with a seven-run inning in the fourth.
  • Tori Olson drove in two runs with a double and a triple and Spaeth tripled in two more. Sydney Grendler added an RBI single, and a stolen base and DSU error led to two additional runs as Jamestown took a 9-4 lead.
  • Quintanilla and Olson each drove in a pair of runs and Spaeth added another in the top of the fifth to put UJ in front by double digits.
  • Spaeth finished 4-for-4 and drove in four runs, while Olson also drove in four and was 3-for-4.
  • Grendler and Trinity Gregg each had two hits.
  • Maddie Hairgrove (7-1) came on in relief and pitched 2 2/3 innings to get the win. She struck out five, gave up one hit, and walked one.

  • Jamestown travels to Grand Forks, N.D., on Wednesday for a doubleheader against Division 1 opponent University of North Dakota beginning at 5 p.m.
