The funeral service for Lee Martin Anderson, 93, Valley City, North Dakota, formerly Kathryn, North Dakota, will be 11:00 am, Monday April 21 at Waldheim Lutheran Church, Kathryn with visitation one hour before the service. The burial will be at Waldheim Cemetery. Lee passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at SMP Health-St. Raphael, Valley City.

Lee Martin Anderson was born January 23rd, 1932, to Arthur and Amanda (Lee) Anderson near Kathryn, North Dakota. He grew up on a farm near Kathryn, ND. Lee attended grade school at Eastedge, North Dakota and graduated from Nome High School in 1949.

Lee married Shirley Johnson on April 11, 1953, at St. Petri Lutheran Church in rural Nome, North Dakota. They raised their four children on the farm where he was born and farmed his entire life. He and Shirley lived there until they retired from farming in 2015. In November of 2017, they moved to Bridgeview Estates Assisted Living in Valley City, ND. Lee and Shirley were married 72 years, celebrating their anniversary surrounded by their kids last week.

Lee was a lifetime member and frequent manual pumper of the non-electrified pipe organ at Waldheim Lutheran Church, Kathryn, North Dakota. He was a diligent member of the mowing crew for the church cemetery.

Lee was a collector of toy John Deere tractors. In addition to farming, Lee hauled spring water to residents of the area to fill the cisterns in their homes.

Lee served on many boards: Eastedge school board, Waldheim Church parish, Barnes County ASC.
While living on the farm, he was also an avid gardener. He planted and harvested many crops in the field but meticulously cared for the plants in the garden. Not a weed to be found! This garden somehow fed his children and their families year after year.

Lee is survived by his wife, their children Michael Anderson (Deb), Vergas, MN, Michele Johnson (Gary), Kathryn, ND and Meldine Tang (Randy) Harwood, ND; 10 grandchildren Jason Anderson (Amy) West Fargo, ND, Jesse Anderson (Leah) Moorhead, MN Brandon Anderson (Kayleigh) Fargo, ND, Kristi Johnson (Chad) Lisbon, ND, Tim Johnson (Holly) Litchville, ND, Christian Anderson (Makayla Young), Fargo, ND, Bradford Anderson, Fargo, ND, Tom Tang (Amanda) West Fargo, ND, Alex Tang (Beth) Leonard, ND, Zach Tang (Mina Vugdalic) West Fargo, ND; and his 12 great grandchildren Allison and Katherine Anderson, Moorhead, MN. Chase, MacKenzie and Colton Johnson, Lisbon, ND, Connor, Sawyer and Stetson Johnson, Litchville, ND, Nora Anderson Fargo, ND, Taylor and Keelie Tang, West Fargo, ND, Reese Tang, Leonard, ND

Lee was preceded in death by his son, Mark, his parents, Arthur and Amanda Anderson Olson, stepfather Emil Olson, Father and Mother-in-law Raymond and Alice Johnson and brother James Anderson.
