The Valley City Public Schools Referendum is important to our community, our citizens, our city and our students. The school system is a “significant face” of Valley City and a new one will be appealing for people looking for a great place to live. As an “older” resident in our district, I believe growth will broaden our tax base and lessen individual tax burdens. For more information, please see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvoSQH-m_Mk

Summer programs at the Barnes County Valley City Library are ready to go. Plan to visit the beautiful Carnegie Library Tuesday, May 27th, 4-6 PM for the “Kickoff Messtival”. Fun with paint bombs, splat paint, color tag, along with hot dogs and BBQ will be enjoyed. Oh, and remember, free movies on Tuesdays.
Next week the 29th & 30th city staff will be picking-up branches so please have yours ready.
Our transfer station was closed for the Memorial Weekend so it will be open Saturday the 31st for Valley City residents to bring cleanup week materials out at no charge.
Electronic Clean Up Week is coming June 6-13. Watch for further information as the time draws nearer.
Last Saturday I visited with a former wrestling coach and state representative from another state. He shared that there is a high number of successful legislators who have wrestling backgrounds. He shared how he believes a wrestling background is conducive to a legislative setting. Before the match they shake hands. They proceed to wrestle, it is a physically exhausting, mentally grueling hand-to-hand contest unlike any other sport. Following the match they shake hands again! People who have the attributes to endure the aforementioned can succeed in many facets of life.
Thank you to all who provide and proof material for this column.
