Jamestown (Chamber) – A groundbreaking ceremony was held at Nickeus Park, marking the start of a major project that will create an inclusive, all-abilities playground, a new shelter, and accessible restrooms.

The $1.6 million project is designed to ensure that individuals of all ages and abilities can play, explore, and gather in a safe, welcoming space. The upgraded park will feature accessible parking, a new four-stall restroom, a fabric picnic shelter, and a poured-in-place rubber play surface. The focal point will be a fully inclusive playground with equipment designed to support physical, social, and emotional development for everyone regardless of ability.

The Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and staff joined the Jamestown Parks and Recreation District for the ceremony.

Jamestown Parks and Recreation received a $600,000 matching grant to support this project and is currently working to raise the remaining funds needed to bring the vision to life. Community support will be key to completing the full scope of work. They sit a little more than $100,000 from their fundraising goal.

Congratulations to Jamestown Parks and Recreation for taking this important step toward a more inclusive community.
