Susan “Sue” Olson, 63, Valley City, ND passed away July 15, 2025, at her sister’s home in Moorhead, MN surrounded by loved ones after being recently admitted to hospice care and a long hard-fought battle with cancer. A celebration of Sue’s life will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, July 22 at Faith Lutheran Church, Valley City. She will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery, Valley City. Sue was born on July 4, 1962, to Allan Olson and Alice (Albright) Hellen. Her mother always referred to her as her “Firecracker Baby”. Sue grew up in Milnor ND. She graduated from Milnor High School and NDSCS, Wahpeton.
On April 1, 2016, she married Verlynn Christianson. They spent 37 wonderful years together. Sue worked for Hardees/Burger King, Valley City for 39 plus years. She was a very successful manager and earned many trips to Hawaii and one to the Horse Races in Canada where they named one of the races “Susan Olson Downs”. She retired in November 2023.
She was an avid MN Vikings fan. She loved to play golf and go camping in the summer. She loved her nieces and nephews, always one of their biggest fans, cheering them on at their sporting events. She was a loyal and active volunteer at the Cowboy Up Ride Against Cancer, raising money for the Roger Maris Cancer Center.
She leaves behind her loving wife, Verlynn Christianson of Valley City; stepdaughter, Kristi (Aaron) Sherven of Minot, ND; step granddaughter, Hailey (Dre) Eder of Clovis, NM; her mother, Alice Hellen of Fargo, ND; sisters, Becky Moldenhauer of Dickinson, ND, Deb (Curt) Tufty of Gwinner, ND, and Karen (Tim) Haugen of Moorhead, MN; brothers, Gerry (Thor) Olson of Burnsville, MN and Bill (Lynette) Olson of Wyndmere, ND. Sisters-in-law, Verna (Buddy) Anderson of Valley City, Vernette Maus of Fargo, and Valeria (Fritz) Salzwedel of Enderlin, ND; brother-in-law, Vince (Doris) Christianson of Redding, CA; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins also mourn her passing.
Sue joins her father, Allan Olson; nephew, Billy Haugen; great niece, Isabelle Haugen; grandparents, Gilbert and Hulda Olson, Fred and Viola Albright; sisters-in-law, Violet Thorsland, Vicki Johnson and Verlaun Fonder; and brother-in-law, Vernon Christian in eternal rest.
