Frances June Yokom, 96, Valley City, North Dakota passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, at SMP Health-St. Raphael, Valley City on July 18, 2025. Her funeral service will be held 11 am Thursday, July 24, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley City. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in the Mapleton Cemetery, Mapleton, North Dakota.

Frances June Grindberg was born June 4, 1929, at Mapleton, the daughter of Clarence and Elizabeth (Lutes) Grindberg. She attended school at Mapleton and was a member of the class of 1947. Frances was united in marriage to Harry “Dwane” Yokom on June 23, 1948. They farmed near Mapleton until they moved in 1950 to Tower City, ND where they farmed for 30 years. Before they retired in 1980, they moved to Valley City in 1976. They spent their summers at West McDonald Lake in MN. Dwane passed away November 27, 1999.

She was a member of the Weimer Homemakers for over 65 years. Frances was also a member of the Eagles Auxiliary holding most of the offices except president. She was named Mrs. Eagles and honored for Eagles Auxiliary Volunteer of the Year. As a member of the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary board, she helped form the “Comfort Room” for the families when a loved one was dying. Also, during her time on the board, they help the hospital get a CT scanner and items the hospital needed. Frances was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, WELCA and quilters.

Frances could always find time for coffee, cards, goodies and good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Paula Pommerer, brothers James and George, and an infant sister.

Frances is survived by two sons Gerald (Julie) Yokom and Tim (Amy) Yokom; a daughter Virginia (Bob) Nelson, all of Valley City; a son-in-law Ron Pommerer, Oriska; 12 grandchildren Nick and Kassandra Yokom, Laura Yokom (Jase Anderson), Angela (Todd) Reed, Jerrod (Lisa) Yokom, Tyler Yokom, Mason (Becky) Nelson, Ross Nelson (Racheal Storbeck), Shelby Nelson (Mike Crandall), Chelsy Nelson (Ryan Ehli), Ryan (Katie) Pommerer, Rick (Susie) Pommerer and Renee (Drew) Larson; 28 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law Carol Grindberg and Shirley Grindberg; and many nieces and nephews.
