Jamestown (Chamber) – The North Dakota State Hospital marked a historic milestone with the groundbreaking of its new $300 million, state-of-the-art facility in Jamestown.

The modern hospital will include 141 treatment beds to serve individuals in need of acute mental health services. With input from staff and based on best practices in behavioral health, the design incorporates enhanced safety measures, natural light, flexible treatment spaces, and trauma-informed design to better support both patients and care teams.

Hospital leadership emphasized how the new facility will transform care. State Hospital Superintendent Aaron Olson and Medical Director Dr. Eduardo Yabut joined Gov. Kelly Armstrong, HHS Commissioner Pat Traynor, and project partners from JLG Architects, Mortenson, and Tegra Group in highlighting the project’s importance.

The event concluded with a ceremonial golden shovels photo, celebrating the investment in Jamestown and reaffirming the North Dakota State Hospital’s central role in advancing behavioral health care across the state.
