Vernon O’Connor, 78, died Tuesday August 19, 2025 at his home in Streeter, ND.

Vern was born on June 6, 1947, to Burdette and Berniece O’Connor and grew up in South Dakota.

In 1978 Vern moved to Fargo, ND where he met his first wife Deb with whom he had three children, Jodi, Chris and Melanie.

Vern later married Emma Jean Ingberg in 2005 and moved to Streeter, ND in 2006.

Vern was known for his carpentry skills. He especially loved helping friends and neighbors with projects, always lending his skills and creativity to make something better. His craftsmanship and generosity left a lasting mark on his community.

Vern built a gazebo, now called “Vern’s Place”, designed by his late wife Emma Jean where they enjoyed being outside having a fire and drinks in the gazebo with their girls (dogs) Lizzy and Justice. He continued to do that after Emma Jean’s passing.

Vern was known for his generosity to help others. He was the kind of man that would lend a helping hand and expected nothing in return.

On August 1, 2025, Vern was diagnosed with a form of very aggressive lung cancer. He decided to go on hospice and live out the time he had left in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his girls and girlfriend Grace. Vern had one wish, to speak to or see his kids one last time and tell them he loved them. He passed peacefully after his wish came true.

Vern is survived by his three children, Jodi (Nathan) Brockman, Chris O’Connor, Melanie Walker; son-in-law Jeff Walker; step-daughter Jaime (Ernie) Bartig; sister, Sheila O’Connor; brother, Larry O’Conno; along with many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Vern was preceded in death by parents, Burdette and Berniece O’Connor; siblings, Patrick O’Connor, Rita O’Connor Cooper, Sharon O’Connor and Robert “Bobbie” O’Connor.

It was Vern’s wishes to be cremated and no services held at this time.
