Kevin Nelson Sorby, born October 30, 1964, passed away peacefully at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minnesota in the early morning hours of August 25, 2025, surrounded by family and friends.

Kevin grew up on his family’s farm near Fort Ransom, North Dakota with his four siblings, Jason, Kory, Kari and Teresa. He later left the farm and began trucking for Bill Maulding, Montpelier, North Dakota and later Lewis Truck Lines, Fargo, North Dakota, until he could afford his own rig. Kevin went on to own his own semi for over thirty years, driving across the country, fulfilling his free spirit and his desire to see the world. When he wasn’t trucking, Kevin enjoyed golfing, fishing, and spending time in his yard, in which he was constantly trying to get grass to grow. Kevin loved spending time with his family and friends and was prone to handing out lots of advice. He was also an avid reader, often spending his nights with a book in his hands.

Kevin Sorby was best known for his infinite supply of kindness towards others, his over-the-top sense of humor, and his booming laugh that could be heard across any room. Anyone that knew Kevin could tell you that he always put the feelings of others before himself and was always there when someone needed a hand.

Kevin is survived by his wife of 10 years, Renee; his son Evan; his parents Kermit and Arlys; and his siblings Jason (Shannan), Kory (Cheryl), Kari (Kevin Bunn) and Teresa (Doug Rotenberger); and other loving family and friends.

Kevin’s love, simple kindness, and endless humor will remain in the hearts of all who were blessed enough to know him. He believed that a kind word was one of God’s most powerful gifts, and that a person should be generous in handing them out.
