Valley City – The 2025 Autumnal Equinox will be observed at Medicine Wheel Park on Monday, September 22, at 7 p.m. This free community event will feature Ricky White (Niigonanakud), who will speak on the significance of Medicine Wheels to Native Peoples and share the ancient wisdom carried through the stones as we welcome the first day of fall.

Ricky White, an Anishinaabe from Whitefish Bay First Nations in Ontario, Canada, is a proud member of the Pizhew or Lynx Clan and a lifetime member of the renowned Whitefish Bay Singers drum group. Growing up on an isolated reservation, Ricky gained a deep understanding of the Anishinaabe language and culture, knowledge that continues to guide his work and teachings today.

With more than 22 years in education, Ricky has served as an Ojibwe Language and Culture Teacher, Principal, Executive Director of Education, and Superintendent of Schools. He has focused on improving school systems, creating positive learning environments, and engaging students who face challenges within traditional education models.

Ricky is now the founder of First Nations Consultants, a company dedicated to sharing strategies for student success and community improvement across Canada and the United States. His leadership and dedication have been widely recognized, including honors such as Minnesota Indian Education Teacher of the Year (2001) and Administrator of the Year (2013).

Beyond education, Ricky is a skilled public speaker, frequently hosting pow-wows, conferences, and keynote events. He brings a passion for serving others and inspiring communities through his work and message.
