On October 4, 2025, a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 76-year-old male of Grand Forks, ND was high centered, facing south on the railroad tracks located NW of the intersection of 16th Street NE and 17th Avenue NE. An eastbound BNSF train struck the Chevrolet.

The crash happened around 10 p.m. in the 1600 block of 17th Avenue NE, roughly three miles west of Grand Forks

The Chevrolet was dragged approximately 60 feet, where it came to rest along the railroad tracks. The driver sustained fatal injuries. This crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
