Madison WI (NDSU) – North Dakota State wrestling dropped its season-opening dual at Wisconsin, falling 36-3 Saturday afternoon at the UW Field House.
The Bison earned their lone win of the day at 141 pounds, where redshirt freshman Michael Olson edged Carson Exferd 3-0 to get NDSU on the board. Olson’s victory came off a strong defensive performance that limited Exferd’s scoring chances and included a rideout in the second period.
Wisconsin opened the dual with three-straight bonus point decisions with a tech fall from Wyatt Ingham at 197 pounds, a fall from #17 Braxton Amos at heavyweight and a major decision from #9 Nicolar Rivera at 125 pounds to take a 15-0 lead.
#32 Tristan Daugherty scored a late takedown on #4 Zan Fugitt to go up 3-2, but Fugitt scored a reversal with seconds left for a 4-3 decision at 133.
After Olson’s win at 141, the Badgers closed out the dual with five-straight victories, including two more bonus-point decisions, as well as two ranked upsets.
North Dakota State (0-1) returns to action next weekend when the Bison host the annual Bison Open at the Scheels Center inside the Sanford Health Athletic Complex on Sunday, November 9.
