Diana Gudmestad, 83, of Jamestown ND passed away November 13, 2025, leaving a legacy of compassion, love and kindness to all that knew her and held her dear.
Diana was born October 16, 1942 to Martin and Rebecca (Brennaise) Fandrick in Underwood. Upon completion of high school, Diana attended Valley City Teacher College, graduating in 1963 to begin a career in teaching. She married Dean Gudmestad on December 1, 1961, moving to a farm in Litchville where she had 7 children. Diana taught elementary school until 1971, when she chose to focus on her children. In 1983 Dean and Diana moved the family to Medina, where she embraced the homesteading life.
Diana returned to the work force in 1987, spending the next twenty years working at the Anne Carlson Center where she helped care for handicap children. She created several techniques that were so effective she was featured in a training video, and those techniques would go on to become standard procedures at the center for years to come.
After retiring in 2003, Diana worked part time at High Acres retirement home helping the staff during the lunch and dinner hours. When she finally embraced full retirement, her apartment became the meeting grounds for friends, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren. She always succeeded in being the ultimate host, with a never-ending supply of snacks and odd games to entertain everybody that stopped.
In her free time, she enjoyed puzzles, baking, knitting, Facebook, playing pinochle, and Oreos.
Diana was survived by 6 children; Jason, Madison S.D., ShawnDell (Sass) (Brent Birch), Jamestown N.D., Josh, Jamestown N.D., Joseph (Jaimie), Haslet, TX, Lucas (Amanda), Jamestown N.D., Lane, Jamestown N.D., 12 grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren.
