Jamestown ND (UJ) – In a thrilling back and forth battle, the sixth-ranked University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 men’s hockey team edged out No. 10 University of Mary 4-3 on Thursday night at John L. Wilson Arena. The victory, their second straight win, avenged a loss to UMary earlier in the month and pushed Jamestown’s record to 13-8-0-0 on the season.
Following their dramatic shootout win over Minot State the previous night, the Jimmies showed no signs of fatigue, jumping out to an early lead and holding off a fierce third-period push from the visiting Marauders (14-7-0-1).
UJ opened the scoring midway through the first period. Ray Warrack netted his third goal of the season at 12:39, assisted by Carson Brown and Brad Fortin. Three minutes later, Fortin doubled the lead with his 12th of the year, converting a feed from Guerin Apperley at 15:48.
Jamestown took a 2-0 advantage into the first intermission, outshooting Mary 12-10 in the opening frame.
The middle frame exploded with offensive action, as the teams combined for four goals. UMary stormed back early, with Alex Senf cutting the deficit to 2-1 at 3:46. Less than a minute later, the Jimmies responded when Kaelan Shelton scored his third of the season at 4:32, restoring the two-goal cushion.
Jamestown extended the lead to 4-1 at 8:44 with what would prove to be the game-winning goal. Marcus Fritel found the back of the net, assisted by Jacob Thomas and Trey Stephenson.
However, the Marauders refused to go quietly. Hunter Mangan struck at 13:54, trimming the UJ lead to 4-2 heading into the final period.
UMary managed to pull within one on a goal by Isaac Flatley with just 15 seconds remaining in regulation, but it was too little, too late. The Jimmies held on for the narrow 4-3 victory.
Jimmie netminder Brandon Weare earned the win with 34 saves on 37 shots. Caleb Cross stopped 40 of 44 shots for the Marauders in the loss. UJ outshot UMary 44-37 overall, with 32 of their 44 shots coming in the final two periods.
The win caps a successful week for the Jimmies, who have now taken down two top-ten opponents in consecutive nights on home ice. Jamestown returns to action on Monday, January 5, 2026 when they host North Carolina State University at 3 p.m.
