Maridenis Carpenter, age 96, of Jamestown, ND and formerly of Fingal and Valley City, ND died Saturday, December 20th at Edgewood Senior Living in Jamestown, ND.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 29th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fingal, ND.  Visitation will be held one hour before the Mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Monday morning.  Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery near Valley City in the spring.  An online guestbook and livestream of Maridenis’ service will be available at www.lerudmathias.com.            

Maridenis Loibl, the daughter of Joseph and Matilda (Huber) Loibl, was born March 29, 1929 at Mercy Hospital in Valley City, ND.  She graduated from Fingal High School in 1947 and went to Interstate Business College in Fargo and worked as secretary in Fargo.  She married Henry Carpenter on September 21, 1951.  They farmed near Oriska and then moved to outside of Fingal.  They had five children of whom three are still living.  Henry passed away in March, 1974.  She married Albert Schlagel in 1976.  They farmed and lived in the north suburb of Lucca, ND.  Albert passed away in 1983.  She married Don Bowman in 1990, but they divorced in 1993.  She continued to live in Fingal for 24 years.  She loved gardening and could always be found outside working in her flower beds.  She took care of the mowing at Holy Trinity Catholic Church and both Holy Trinity Catholic Cemeteries for many years.  Maridenis moved into the Rudolph Square in Valley City in 2008.  She continued her love of flowers by adding many pots of flowers outside the Rudolph Square.  She also took care of the flower planters at the Lerud-Schuldt Funeral Home for eight years starting when she was 80.  In the fall of 2023, she moved to Edgewood Assisted Living in Jamestown to be closer to her daughter and family.  She helped plant many planters of flowers in the spring and continued to take care of them until the fall.  She was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Christian Mothers and St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Valley City.

Maridenis is survived by her three children, Dean (Helen) Carpenter, Nome, ND, Denise (Kevin) Larson, Pelham, GA and Doreen Gordon, Jamestown, ND; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Carpenter, Horace, ND; a brother, Dan Loibl, Spokane, WA; 10 Grandchildren; 17 Great-Grandchildren; one Great-Great-Grandchild.

Maridenis was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one brother, David Loibl, two sons, Daryl and Dwight Carpenter and a son-in-law, Ken Gordon.
