Neil Crandall, beloved husband, Dad, Papa, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 9th, 2026, at the age of 77.
Neil Crandall was born May 25, 1948, in Minneapolis, MN, a son of the late Samuel and Ruth Jean (Tendick) Crandall.
Those who knew Neil will remember the unmistakable twinkle in his eye, a quick wit and his gift of gab — he could strike up a conversation with anyone, and in no time, he’d have them laughing, thinking, or both. With a cup of coffee in hand and a story to tell, he brought warmth and wit to every room he entered.
He was devoted to his wife of 54 years, Nicolette, and together they built a life grounded in love, loyalty, and laughter. He was the proud father of two children, John and Nissa, who adored him beyond measure. His greatest joy in life came from being Papa to Nickolai and Nöel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Crandall; sister, Jeanene Rudolph-Zebley; nephew, Lee Rudolph; nieces, Samantha Rudolph-Zebley and Fallon Zebley.
Neil is survived by his wife, Nicolette; his son, John (Carol); his daughter, Nissa; and his grandchildren; Nickolai and Nöel. He is also survived by his sister, Colleen Hulm; sister-in-law, Dorothy Crandall; brother-in-law, Byron Zebley; nephews: Tom Rudolph and Jesse Hulm; niece: Robyn Gamble.
Neil will be deeply missed by his family and by the many friends who were lucky enough to have known him. His kindness, humor, and storytelling will be remembered always.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11 am January 16th, 2026, at Traditions Funeral Services – Oliver Nathan, Valley City. Visitation will be one hour before the service in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you take a moment to share a story with someone, enjoy a cup of coffee, and remember Neil with a smile.
