Lorraine Mae (Gausemel) Greenwood, known to all as Lorrie, died Monday, January 12, 2026 at SMP Assisted Living, where she had been a resident since 2018.
Lorrie was born in Bowman, ND the second child of Selmer and Hattie (Norem) Gausemel on July 5, 1930. She was raised and educated in Bowman and later in Drake, ND where the family moved in 1940. Lorrie married Don Greenwood of Drake on January 9, 1948. In 1957 Lorrie and Don moved to Jamestown, ND. In 1959 they started the business of Greenwood Plumbing and Heating where they worked together until he died in 1992, after which she continued in the business along with her son, David. She retired in 2000.
Lorrie was very active in several women’s groups including Tabernacle Society and St. Bernadette Circle of St. James Catholic Church, Four Corners Homemakers Club, the PTA of the schools her children attended, and Jamestown Hospital Auxiliary where she volunteered and chaired several projects.
Lorrie was a lifelong avid reader, especially enjoying mystery novels. She loved playing card games of all kinds with family and friends and was a very active bridge player for many years. She enjoyed spectator sports, watching many games played by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She and Don sponsored a men’s softball team named for their business in the 1970’s and 1980’s and she rarely missed a game.
Lorrie is survived by her five children and their spouses, Diane and Dudley Butts, John and Susan Greenwood, David and Trish Greenwood, Phyllis and Rod Andersen, and Alan and Dawn Greenwood; grandchildren, Jason (Janel) Butts, Susanna (Chris) Tanner, Joseph Greenwood, Karen (Kenny) Blattenbauer, Michael (Heidi) Greenwood, Abby (Chad) Zimmel, Clay (Amanda) Greenwood, Leah (Derek Abbott) Greenwood, Eden Greenwood; step-grandchildren Trevor (Erica) Flanagin, Matt Flanagin, and Sarah Flanagin; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; her brother, Lee Gausemel and her sister, Karen Connolly and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Don Greenwood, Lorrie was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Jo and Erwin Lang and Sylvia and James Borchert, sister-in-law, Gladys Gausemel, grandson, Jack Greenwood, and great-granddaughters, Josie Greenwood, Jules Greenwood, and Leni Jo Greenwood.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Monday, January 19, 2026 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown, ND with Very Reverend C.F. Wilhelm, presiding.
