The funeral service for David C. Hayen, 87, Valley City, North Dakota will be 2 pm Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Traditions Funeral Services – Oliver Nathan Chapel, Valley City. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the chapel. Burial will be in the spring at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cogswell, North Dakota. He passed away January 23, in Fargo.

David Charles Hayen was born November 14, 1938, near Cogswell, the son of Isadore and Jenny (DeBoer) Hayen. He was raised on a farm and attended grade school at Straubville School and he went on to attend high school at Cogswell graduating in 1957. Dave worked for the North Dakota State Highway Department for 48 years, retiring in November of 2007.

He was a member of the Valley City Eagles Club for 50 years, Ducks Unlimited, RMEF Club, life member of both the North American Hunting Club-Montana and North American Fishing Club, American Legion, Valley City Bowling Hall of Fame.

Dave is survived by his family, Valera Hayen, Debbie (Ron) King, Gena (Jeff) Ertelt, nieces Terri, Kim, Kari and nephew Bob.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Duane Hayen and the love of his life, Carol Berg Dahl.
